Hi friends! Another month has come and gone, which I feel like I say on repeat every time I put out one of these monthly updates. But alas, July is over and we’re moving on to the best month of all: August!
Why is August the best? Well it’s the month of my birth. Which I guess makes it the best month of all, right? 😂😂
But before I get ahead of myself, let’s look back on the month of July, shall we?
Piece of Cake: Nourish
It’s hard to believe, but I am already thinking about recipes for the newest Fall/Winter meal plan. Which is going to be hard to do when all I want to eat are burgers, corn on the cob, potato salad and creamy cool ice cream treats.
This super simple red pepper and asparagus pasta is one that’s going to be on there, and boy was it delicious! Super simple to make and the perfect recipe for an quick dinner.
If you haven’t picked up your meal plan yet, you may want to jump on it now. There’s still plenty of time for you to enjoy the Spring/Summer recipes and then have the newest Fall/Winter meal plan sent straight to your inbox for free when it’s released at the end of September.
Piece of Cake: Travel
If you follow me on social media, then you may have seen my recent obsession with Door County, Wi. Burken and I went with my parents and another couple for a mini vacation right before the Fourth of July.
We had such a blast!
There are all of these tiny little towns with great bars and restaurants and cute little shops. We also took my parents boat with us and got out on the water a few different days we were there.
We stayed in Sturgeon Bay right by the water at the Bridgeport Waterfront Resort. It was great because there was a nice little kitchen that we could keep breakfast items, snacks and drinks in. We had such gorgeous views right out of our window.
One day we drove up to Sister Bay and then slowly made our way back down bar hopping, laughing and having an amazing time.
We went to dinner at Kitty O’Reillys that had an awesome outdoor patio. I got these super delicious lobster tacos. Then made our way to a place called Greystone Castle. Oh man, what fun we had there!! Lots of drinks and lots of fun were had that night.
The next day we spent pretty much the whole day out on the water. We stopped at a small bar that was right on the water that had amazing homemade Door County cherry mojitos.
We kept that night pretty low key and ordered pizza from Sonny’s that was right next door to our hotel. They have really great pizza and Italian, so if you’re in Sturgeon Bay you should definitely make a pit stop there.
Our last night was actually my Dad’s birthday. We decided to go somewhere for a slightly nicer dinner, and boy did we hit that one on the head! We crossed the bridge and made our way to the Inn at Cedar Crossing. Each one of us remarked at just how delicious our meals were. Burken had a lobster and crab mac and cheese, which he said was quite possibly the best mac and cheese he’s ever had.
I am convinced that this will not be our last time to Door County. There were so many other places and things to do that we just didn’t have time to get to. So I hope you’re able to, at least once, make a trip to this wonderful little corner of Wisconsin.
Piece of Cake: My Story
If you didn’t get a chance to read it yet, late last week I posted about my story with PCOS, and trying to get pregnant. It’s been a tough road, and almost tougher for me to write that post and put it out for the world to read {almost}.
But I just wanted to say thank you to everyone who has commented, emailed, called or texted me about this journey. So many of you have described the same hardships and have told me I’m not alone. And that honestly means the world to me.
It can be so hard to go through this journey thinking we can’t talk to others about the difficulties of getting pregnant. But I wanted so many women to understand from that post that they were not alone. That we should feel like we can express our feelings to each other and confide in one another.
So thank you again to all of you and your amazing words of encouragement! We are truly blessed to have such a strong foundation on our side.
Piece of Cake: One Last Slice
What I’ve been loving: my Dove Dry Shampoo. For those of you who saw both my post and my Instagram story, you saw that I went from a Saturday to a Thursday without washing my hair. I owe it all to a good dry shampoo!
I also have been loving my Beachbody workouts. They’re totally working every part of my body and helping so much with my running. Which this month I signed up for my first half marathon, and I’m suuupppeerr {like really} excited for!
What you’ve been loving: I’m not sure the Peach Upside Down Cake will ever be taken over, but a few of the runner’s up were:
- My very personal post {as noted above} about Living with and Eating for PCOS
- These muffins turned cupcakes thanks to a delicious cream cheese frosting
- And a vegan scone that tastes so decadent you might not think it’s actually healthy
Can’t wait to chat with you all at the end of next month. I’m just hoping the month of August will decide to slow down just the tiniest bit so that we can still savor those sweet flavors of summer!
