It’s October, which means sweaters and boots, falling leaves, pumpkin spice and of course, Halloween! Halloween is my husband’s {Burken…yes, I call him by our last name} favorite holiday. I believe he’s even said he likes it better than his own birthday. So for the past three years we’ve been hosting a Halloween party to celebrate.

He loves to decorate the house in cobwebs {which I suck at doing}, skulls, eyeballs, witches, spiders and red light bulbs. It’s always a fun time when our home is all set up for a spooky Halloween. My favorite part about this holiday? Making the Halloween inspired snacks of course! Below is a photo of our Halloween party last year. I made some mummy meatballs on a bed of slimy spaghetti {don’t worry, it was just dyed green}. Plus some creepy eyeball cupcakes. They were by far my favorite!

Halloween set up for a super fun Halloween party.

I always start thinking way ahead of time what I will make for our Halloween party, and this year was no exception. By the end of September I already had a list of ideas for Halloween treats that I wanted to make and share with all of you. These spooky spider Halloween treats were at the top of the list.

Spooky spiders require very few ingredients, 5 to be exact.

Just 5 ingredients make for the perfect Halloween treat for a party. Turn crackers, licorice, Snickers and chocolate into spooky spiders.

Ritz crackers make for the perfect round spider body. And because there has to be something sweet and sticky to hold everything together, I used mini Snickers bars. Snickers are probably one of my favorite Halloween candies, so they were the perfect addition.

Next were the legs. Licorice instantly came to mind for some spooky spider legs, but who likes black licorice? Certainly not me. Instead I found this pack of Hershey’s chocolate flavored licorice. Let me tell you, that stuff is pretty darn delicious. Just snip the licorice into 4 pieces and use 6 to make the spider legs.

The Snickers should still be melty after you’ve pushed the licorice legs into them, so top with one more cracker. The halfway made spiders won’t need to sit for too long before the Snickers hardens and you can start to coat them in melted chocolate.

Now I know you might be tempted to just dunk the whole thing in the melted chocolate, but I’m telling you don’t do it! I tried this, and it did not work. The legs become coated in chocolate and just don’t look all that appealing. So while the next step might be a bit more time consuming, you’ll thank me later when all of your spooky spiders get lots of compliments.

Using a pastry brush, or even a meat brush {super technical term for something to brush a glaze, or in this case, melted chocolate onto something else}. Dip it in the chocolate and swirl it over the top of the crackers. Freeze for about 5-10 minutes to get the chocolate to harden. Then flip them over and do the same to the other side.

Push some cute candy eyeballs into the front of the crackers while the chocolate is still soft. Let sit for another 5-10 minutes and you have some cute spooky spiders!
